Summary

International Conference with 1,500 Participants - a Great Success

Last June 9th and 10th of 2004, the 4th Korea Display Conference 2004 Summer was held at COEX. Sponsored by Display Bank and organized by KODEMIA, this conference offered a greater scope and diversity of programs, and as if to reflect the Korean display industry gradually growing in importance, the Ministry of Industry and Energy, Maeil Economic Daily, and EIAK provides sponsorship.

Although the heat of early summer had begun, the placid weather added pleasure to the outings of industrial participants coming to the COEX conference site. A total of 1,500 people joined in this conference that ran over two days along with an exhibition that was offered in parallel. Compared to the first day with more weight on the market of flat-screen TV, monitors, mobile phones and other finished products and technology, there were somewhat more participants gathering to see the second day with technologies and market of various industries, including TFT-LCD, PDP, OLED.

As was evident in this conference's slogan of "Time for Right Turn: We need value-up", a pause was taken to view the current status of the display industry in speedy growth and to look into the future of the industry. The purpose of this event would be to tone down the atmosphere of the Korean display industry that emphasizes external growth and to examine the actual benefits.

With the speakers at this conference numbering 42, which was 10 more than in the previous conference, the reviews said it was improved in coordination and volume. In addition, the evaluation was that it was a truly international conference, being held in Korea, the display power nation true to its name, as 9 of the speakers were from overseas.

The conference began on the first day with a keynote speech by the Minister of Industry and Energy at the COEX auditorium with 1,000 seats, followed by presentations made on large TV market and trends by LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, DBOSS, KBS, SINO, a Chinese research agency specialized in the TV market, and Display Bank, and on the monitor and mobile application market, Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDI, SK Telecom, and LG.Philips Displays presented.

And on the second day, the two channels of 'TFT-LCD' and 'PDP/OLED' were held simultaneously at the Grand Ballroom. The TFT-LCD channel began with a keynote speech by Executive Directory Suk Joon-hyung of Samsung Electronics, which was followed by presentations of Taiwan MIC, JP Morgan, LG.Philips LCD, CMO, SCHOTT, Harison-Toshiba, ADP Engineering, Jusung Engineering, Samsung Electronics, LG Chemicals, and HeeSung Precision.

Meanwhile, the PDP/OLED channel began with a keynote speech by LG Electronics' Managing Director Kim, Hansoo, followed by the presentations of Samsung SDI, Japanese market research agency TSR, LG Production Technology Institute, Irae Electronics, and Display Bank, which discussed the PDP market and its issues, and OLED technology issues were presented by professor Jang Jin of Kyonghee University, who offered the keynote speech, followed by CDT, Korea Electronic Transmission Research Institute (ETRI), Samsung SDI, Nes Display, etc..
